The History of Alzheimer's Disease

Alois Alzheimer and Colleagues

"Alois Alzheimer and Colleagues"

This exhibit compares historical and modern beliefs, fears, and self-expression surrounding Alzheimer's Disease and what cognitive decline symbolizes. This topic is important to discuss at any stage of life and health and relates across cultures and time periods. Specifically, cognitive decline should be able to be discussed openly, without fear of being judged or stigmatized for personal experience or questions. Overall, it should never be taboo to speak about natural processes seen to occur individually and within a societal context!

Has Alzheimer's been around since the dawn of humanity? How far as a society have we progressed in regards of stigma and fear? How can everyone get involved in community care and outreach? How do personality and self-expression evolve as one ages and/or experiences disease? All of these questions will be explored and hopefully provide further insight into a vast aspect of past and modern-day humanity.
